What’s going good? & Why Sensitive People Hate Marketing

Here’s what’s going good including a talk I’m giving today on “Why Sensitive People Hate Marketing” (more below)

But first here’s what really matters–the life stuff:

1. I took a break from social media since the beginning of the month.

It’s been a way for me to intentionally slow down and focus in.

It seemed hard at first and now I’m adoring it so so much that I’m going to keep on for a while, maybe through August.

I’ve also lightened up my client load although if you ever need help writing for your website, your books, etc. you can still contact me to see how I can help.

2. As a result of all this time spent going in, I’m feeling a lot better now than I was.

Last June I found out my dad had liver and pancreas cancer, and he passed a lot sooner than I expected in August.

As generally happens around year anniversaries, feelings about all that have been coming in strong.

Since I became my dad’s executor, big responsibilities landed on my shoulders. To be honest, I’m realizing I’ve had huge boulders ever since I was a kid and my mother passed away.

Now I’m trying to feel it and let some things go, both old injuries and new.

Taking the time to go in and slow down has helped me feel like I can take a breath and just be a person.

3. I’m filling my life with positive content that is lifting me into a new evolution of my self.

Here’s a great video about Omisade Burney Scott

“As a Black woman in America, Omisade Burney Scott always relied on her well-curated, bold vibe to keep her appearing successful and feeling accepted in this world. But when menopause hit in her late 40’s, she found herself in a deep depression that had her body screaming at her to get back to her IDGAF 10 year old self, unmasked, unencumbered by the need for external validation, and not yet scarred by the effects of colorism.

“Now at 54, Omisade is only speaking to herself with kindness and learning to feel valuable and loveable without any facade, even when she feels like a “hot diggity mess.” In her menopausal rebirth, she has taken the courageous step of leaving her more traditional career, gifting herself space to heal, and paying it forward to her community through the launch of her organization, Black Girls Guide to Menopause (@blackgirlsguidetomenopause).

“Watch Omi’s video and get a dose of how medicinal it is to let your curated vibe crumble and be “sweet to your damn self.””

I love hearing other people’s stories,

which is part of why I love the work I do helping people to write for their books or business. There is so much power and inspiration in the stories of real people.

Not only have I been enjoying great content like this from a course called Release and Reclaim (which I may tell you more about in the future) but I’ve also been decluttering and upgrading clothes that got super worn out during my travels.

Letting the old out and the new in.

4. I’m giving a talk today!

If you’d like some more inspirational content and to connect with real life women who rock, I’ll be speaking today at On Purpose Women online

“Why Sensitive People Hate Marketing” with Sofia Wren Nitchie
Being really excellent at your craft is only one piece of a successful business. It is also essential to let people know what you offer and why they should come to you, aka marketing. If you’ve been thinking of taking things to the next level and are resisting marketing, come to the workshop to explore what may be in the way.
