There’s always something deeply touching about it, and of course I’m always surprised by something relevant that I wrote.
I’ve just received a note from myself today.
Because this was such a crazy year, I only just wrote the email a few months ago, but I’d forgotten what it said, like usual.
And yet so relevant.
I hope you try a practice like this for yourself, but perhaps these words will speak to you, too.
“Dear Sofia,
The past few years have been challenging ones for sure, but I don’t think you knew just how challenging this one would be. You have lost someone really truly important to you but I hope you know that he is not completely gone.
You have so many people who love you, so many who support you. Sometimes that support looks any number of ways. You have to think outside of the box.
But most importantly you have to put yourself first. You have gone fast at times, wanting to speed ahead as you have done before but the lessons you have learned now is that this is not the answer.
Speed and doing are distractions that take you away from what is really important. There is more than one way to get ahead, and ahead of what? What really matters to you now is a soul connection. You sacrifice looking “right” and having other people validate you in order to do the things that will truly be nourishing to your soul
I’m sorry that life has been so absent of nourishing figures in your family at times. It is not fair that there is so much that you have lacked. But I know that you know that hanging on is not going to help you. You know when to emotionally express and be supported and be with the feelings, and when to take control of life and let go of the pain in your body.
You are a genius and you know that is true no matter what. I’m glad you are releasing perfectionism, I’m glad you are letting go of feeling defeated for long, I’m glad you are honoring yourself first consistently and defying the sense of should and rules as you do.
I’m proud of you. and I know it isn’t your job to make anyone proud, because you are enough as you are.
I’m always here to support you. I always am holding you. I always am loving you.

(I just might take a wee bit to respond because I plan to focus a lot more on my life for a few weeks.
Before you pen down your goals for the new year, let me share…
Once upon a time, I was a little mermaid, feeling lost and wondering what to do with my life.
I attended a class, where–lo and behold–I was given the best advice ever.
Someone told me that everyone tends to make goals about what they want to do and what they want to have.
But really they should focus on the person that they want to BE.
That’s the one thing that had alluded me.
For years, I had set goals the way I thought I was supposed to:
-to earn certain grades
-to get into a good school
-to get a good job with that degree
But by the time I got to the end I always felt like something was missing.
I was unsatisfied no matter how well I did in school, or in my work.
Every. Single. Time.
Why?
My goals did not account for who I wanted to be–
and so to meet my goals, I ended up conforming and fitting into the mold of someone else entirely.
I thought I was getting closer to something, but really I was getting farther away.
But the man told us, whatever it is you are trying to do, have or be, there is an easier way to get there.
You can flip the script and you can focus on what you want to BE first.
So then I start thinking, “Okay, but who do I even want to be, though…?”
Moving past my silent questions…
He said, “Let’s say you want to be successful. When you focus on the BEING the kind of person who is successful, you naturally will do the things a successful person does and having the things that a successful person has.”
The lesson is:
Identify who you want to be first and focus on becoming that as quickly as possible.
Then everything else will be easier.
And you don’t have to be who you are “supposed to be” or who people expect.
You have full permission to get as wild and crazy as you really want to be when it comes to imagining the person you are ready to step into BEING…
Right.
Now.
So after I heard him speak, I remembered it for many years.
Slowly, I began to clarify that question of,
“Who do I want to be?
And if who I am isn’t the same as my job or my possessions, what does THAT mean?”
Gradually…slowly…I came to an answer of my own:
A Psychic Mermaid Creatrix.
What’s that?
Those are the words I have found to describe the state I want to be in:
Being in the water.
At one with nature.
At peace with myself.
Knowing that this second, around the world, there are people are enjoying my work:
my words, my videos, my thoughts, my songs, my books, my work, my creations, my energy.
It is desired. It is understood. It is spot on.
I am tapped in.
I know how to help people and do it in a way that helps me, too.
I’ve got money I need to make this dream reality possible–including time off to totally unwind.
Everything I desire is right here.
Through the power of this idea of who I wanted to be, I realized there was a gap to cross.
I had to evolve.
I had to THINK thoughts like her, embrace the new ways of thinking about things.
I began retraining my mind about what was allowed, possible, and good.
to embrace more of her essence.
I stopped believing lies that kept me small–
like that if I enjoy myself, that means someone else has to suffer.
If I win, someone loses.
NO. Eff that.
I began understanding that Joy can be a win-win.
That it’s possible to live in a reality where the things that light you up result in helping other people.
It doesn’t always have to be a cycle of endless suffering, giving to other people in a way where you end up losing.
The point of being a creator, a healer, a light in the world–is to ADD, not to subtract from yourself.
Give to yourself so that other people can receive more your best, mermaid self.
That sexy self that likes to dance in the mirror, or wear sparkles.
The part of you that is still laughing at a joke you made five minutes ago.
That is always going to remember nearly peeing yourself with happiness.
Yes–that self.
Pursue the things that make you feel in alignment with who you really want to be,
and you can actually make MORE:
more joy,
more money,
more good work or good art,
serve more people…
And finally heal the wounds everyone has been living with for centuries trying to give in lose-win ways.
Stop just stop.
Build JOY currency– the win-win model.
And stop living your life based on traditional currency, where in order for someone to win, someone else has to lose.
The experience of finding my true goal of who I want to be–
and tapping into this more, making changes, and using tools to basically channel the mermaid energy that is so full of joy, and that MORE…
I want to say it changed my life, but that would imply that I am done.
I am a work in progress. I am continually recreating myself day by day.
I am doing the work.
But it’s a lot easier because of this high vibration that I am being connected to on a daily basis since this summer when the Psychic Mermaid Creatrix course first began.
I share some of what I receive in my public spheres, but this course has been a place to fill hours of content with insights, tools, guides and profound codes for creativity and success in your book and business.

Telling me that I needed to do XYZ if I wanted to make any money in my business.
It was making it personal, saying if I don’t do this then I’m not taking my business seriously.
I would be an un-evolved human if I don’t do the thing the voice says.
Of course, that thing the voice recommended I do was very complicated and would hours…
hours when I could otherwise read or relax on a Sunday morning,
And now, how can I relax when my mind is telling me it is so urgent and important to do things…
I have to make all these decisions to get this project done and I felt lost.
Do you ever hear this kind of voice in your creative process?
Pressuring? Judging?
This is where being a creator, a writer, or an entrepreneur can become a TRAP.
It is the thing I like least about this independent journey I am on,
the grinding, the pressure, the inability to stop or pause.
This process could be so full of freedom, but is it?
If only I could LET GO.
Letting go is something I have to WORK at.
It is a practice.
That’s how I advance in my writing, in my business, in my music and life.
I have to figure out who is talking–
is this my inner critic? The one who thinks I am never enough?
Or is this my soul and intuition–the part of me that is truly on my side?
The problem is that the inner critic, or the voice of judgement can seem like it is intuition with smart ideas.
I used to fall into this all the time.
But here is what I have learned:

Take a minute. Get quiet. Meditate.

Get back into your soul and find out what really matters to do next…
Or not do next.
Because you deserve rest, too.
You are a human being not a human doing.
Do not feel pressured to always be on.
You have to clear space for yourself, too.

Yes–deleting and clearing space IS a form of creation.
