There’s a hard pill to swallow, that no one really wants to believe:

Which is that you are totally UNIQUE.

Which means that no one else has been you before.

Soooooo… what? What does that mean?

It means other people cannot tell you exactly what you need to do.

They can’t tell you what to do if they don’t know you.

And even then they could get it wrong.

Even me.

Unfortunate, I know.

If only life were so easy.

If only there was a magic bullet to magically solve all your problems.

Then we could all be little productivity robots just going through the motions like someone told us to.

It’s the last installment of this lovely series, and I guess the secret is finally out:

I don’t have a “MAP” for you to follow!

Not a rinse-and-repeat system…

I was never trying to show you the entire map of what to do.

I showed you some layers, some of those puzzle pieces, and I do hope that they helped.

BUT since I’ve been at the side of countless entrepreneurs, sensitive peeps, writers and other people I admire,

I have noticed that no two people have been exactly the same.

I attract weirdos.

(I love you, I hope you see this as a term of endearment tee hee )

So you don’t fit in a box! I get it.

As a result, I could give you advice which is the total opposite of what I would tell someone else.

So secretly, what I have really been hoping to do all along in this series,

is maybe not what you might have imagined.

I didn’t aim just to share information and experience and how-tos.

All of that will only get so far if you don’t have the real missing piece.

OTHER PEOPLE’S SYSTEMS WILL NOT NECESSARILY WORK.

NOT IF YOU LOSE TOUCH WITH YOUR OWN GENIUS.

For instance, I spent tens of thousands of dollars looking for the magic pill and it did not help me have a profitable business.

I spent a chunk of cash on writing coaching at one point and ended the mentorship completely stuck and unable to write for months.

But when I really started to listen to myself I got out of the rut.

I could pick and choose what pieces of learning suited my unique design as a person.

And I rolled it all together and things started to work.

So because bringing myself back to that place of knowing helped me so much, I want to do the same for you.

What I am here to do first and foremost is to help you find the GLUE that puts all the pieces you have learned together.

It doesn’t matter where you got those pieces:

other teachers, books, courses….

You still need the glue to fill in the gaps.

The glue that ties everything together is YOU.

Your genius…

Your knowing…

Your inner mermaid…

The creative power.

That intangible quality that is expressed when you are in touch with something mysterious inside of you.

Once you flip the switch ON to activate this part of you, suddenly things that were difficult become easy.

Suddenly the ideas that were confused become instantly clear.

You become motivated to do things you didn’t feel like doing for years.

This is the kind of shift I see in my clients all the time when we work together, and it is why I love what I do.

Because witnessing other people flip the switch inspires me to flip mine, too!

Flipping that switch is what I call tapping into your inner genius, or your inner mermaid.

The mechanism for flipping the switch is already there.

The wiring is within you and there is nothing wrong with it or you.

But things may work a little differently than you were taught they ‘should’.

The B.S. is keeping you from uncovering a next move.

It’s not all about being told what to do.

Other people can tell you that, all day every day.

Telling people what to do is easy.

But just because everyone else is telling you what to do does not mean it’s going to work for you.

First you need to access a level of energy and a way of thinking to discern what part of what you are hearing is worth your time.

Because from that place of connection and inspiration you make better decisions.

You know what teachings from someone else are not going to fit you.

You’ll recognize when you need to change your mind–when you thought something wasn’t right for you but really you were just being stubborn.

You’ll say yes to things and no to things.

And all of that will be totally perfect for you.

And yes, someone will probably judge your choices, but you will not care as much anymore, or even if you care, you will do what is right for you anyway.

Because when you are tapped into this place you have more certainty.

You know what you have to do.

And that means you make steps with more confidence for more progress in everything you do.

I love this place! And I love being here to witness it and encourage it in others.

So for weeks there have been clips of the trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.

Depp is suing Amber for defamation.

Here’s what I have been pondering as the trial happens:

It is SO easy for some people to be 100% certain that they are an expert or maintain they are right, or believe that they are allowed to do whatever they want to do–while I see other people (who wouldn’t hurt a fly) doubt themselves so, so much.

The people least capable of hurting anyone are holding themselves back.

There’s doubt, there is going back and forth, there is fear of not being good enough, not being woke enough, not knowing enough or having enough certifications to talk about something or charge…

While other people can be caught in a bold face lie and respond by doubling, or tripling down!

If only the forces of good could have a fraction of that confidence.

Regardless about how you feel about Amber Heard, to me the lesson is, we sensitive wouldn’t-hurt-a-fly peeps need to be more CERTAIN about our right to use our voice and do what we want to do.

If you want to write a book, do it.

If you want to put up a site to sell your services, do it.

Sometimes you just have to believe that what you want to say is worth it.

I’m on a mission to help entrepreneurs and sensitive people get writing done for their book or business so that they can get the word out about what they can do and serve more people on the planet.

Writing, posting, sharing, selling is all a form of DARING.

When I started writing I didn’t think about it very much because I was young. I started my first blog 10 or 11, so early I can’t remember.

We all do brave things without thinking when we are young because it is too early to know what there is to fear, but things change with age and experience.

​
​

With time I realized I had to stay anonymous, that it was safer to hide my identity.

Only my trusted friends were allowed to read my thoughts and know it came from me.

And even then I learned to filter it. At one point I had a second secret blog to go even deeper into my inner world.

I thought I needed pen names to feel totally honest…

​
​

But after 10 years of hiding, I realized there was more to life than being safe.

Being perfect and correct did not satisfy me.

Living in the dark wasn’t enough. I wasn’t expressed. I wasn’t the person I wanted to become, I wasn’t able to connect with people all the way.

Expression mattered more than ‘safety’ because it began to feel like a form of death.

​

I didn’t want to risk having a life of regret.

I didn’t want to die with words left in me, a book in me, dreams in me.

I wanted to live FULL OUT.

​
​

And it wasn’t just about me.

I slowly realized that writing has enormous power to connect people together—

if I allowed myself that chance to truly be seen, my reader would feel validated in a way, too.

​
​

I realized that when I aimed to be perfect, I was striving to be something not human.

It’s like wanting to be a machine.

If I want to look perfect to others, I am contributing to a pattern that only enslaves other people in this same impossible expectation.

But when I show my real humanity, I break the chain.

I free someone else.

​
​

With time, I let the layers of secrecy go.

​
​

I started writing about my twenties and how I found myself through bad dates and bad decisions.

That extremely honest writing adventure became my book Freedom Year.

I needed to write it, I needed to forgive things I had judged, and then I could finally grow into the next level of myself.

​
​

When I published my book at 33, I told my friends a bus could hit me and I’d die happy.

I’d done what I was here on this planet to do.

But I wasn’t truly finished.

​
​

Because since then my passion has been rekindled for helping other people to go through the same journey that I went through.

To pull you into the journey that I’m on now.

TO WRITE AND BE FREE

​

There are always more things to write, new stories to share, new people to connect with, deeper levels of connection to access.

And I’m here for it.

Do you want to do it with me?

​
​

To do that, there’s one more layer you have to go through.

You have to let go of needing to be perfect.

Because perfect supposes there is a way to judge perfect.

Perfect supposes that there is judge, an authority, with the power to declare that.

And there is only one way.

​

But really it is all subjective.

​
​

Your perfect and my perfect are different.

Because my perfect is showing up with an open heart and seeing where life takes me.

It’s coming to the page with an intention to help others, and knowing I can help myself at the same time.

It’s baring my soul and admitting my mistakes and human frailties and loving it because I know I am not alone.

​
​

It’s taking the steps courageously one by one

and getting the feedback about what resonates

which over and over again continues to validate that I am on the right path.

​

But confirmation only came after I took a risk and dared to be seen as imperfect.

​

Now when it comes that confirmation is a bonus, because sharing honestly has become my way of life.

I keep my sparks of passion burning regardless of how it will land with other people,

although I don’t block them out entirely, either.

I feed my flame with faith and courage, and on a certain level I pray and hope other people will like me and what I write.

But even not knowing the answer, there is no mistake that this is what I am supposed to be doing.

​

I show up imperfectly and I don’t necessarily like the exposure but it is freeing, empowering, and meaningful.

​
​

This is what I was born for, what I have created, what I am meant to do.

To show up

To be imperfect

To embrace what humanity truly is

To make a world where we can shine as equals, as imperfect

PERFECTLY the way we are.

​

Have you ever made a mistake that cost you money?

Being an entrepreneur I have spent some serious coin on

• Business groups and certifications that didn’t pay for themselves,
• Professional advice that did not fit me as an individual
• Courses or templates I never used

It can be hard to talk about, but I’m excited to share with you what I have learned.

Now first off, let me say that I know that this is something very common. It doesn’t have to be this way for everyone…but a LOT of people I know have spent a heckoff a lot of money on their business.

It would certainly describe me!!!

Got to spend money to make money right?

In one sense yes, but I think if I had gone back with what I know now, I might have made a different set of decisions.

Everything I invested in had it’s benefits but were all of them 100% worth the money I ended up spending? …with interest?!

Not always.

Sometimes a financial investment is just what you need to get to the next level and then you will make more money to pay it back,

but in my case I can clearly see that some investments I made that were a lot better for my business than others.

I think about some of those investments beyond a few thousand dollars where I was in an impersonal group program and I’m like “what now?”

Now some of those experiences gave me precious memories and shifts I’ll have for a life time…while others I probably will not ever think about again.

Crazy huh?

I’m going to be totally honest and say I’ve spent way too much money on my business over the years!

And some of it I can’t help but feel regret about.

I have made a few mistakes.

And since I made those decisions to invest that money, really I am the only person I can blame.

D’oh.

Self blame is soooooo useful, right?

Yeah no. It is one thing to learn from the past but self blame is no bueno.

When I am in a self blame space:

• My confidence decreases,
• I feel unworthy of good things happening,
• I don’t feel motivated to improve my situation.

All of that in the past even led me to spend gobs more money to get out of a hole, which is not a sustainable practice.

The real answer?

Now I know: slow down, go inside and do some inner work—

then I will create a shift in how I feel and think so I can tap into my inner genius to make the decisions that will put my business and life back on track.

Doing work on my relationship with money is one of the things that has been KEY to getting my business off of the ground.

One of my good investments was learning different ways to do this! And now I want to teach it to you..for free!

Because forgiving yourself can be the hardest thing in the world!

It will help you move forward so you can do what you are here on the planet to do.

Remember: When you release the past you will be more open to RECEIVE.

And when you have that ability to receive love and other things, you gain something bigger than money:

JOY CURRENCY.

That is a phrase I made up that feels REAL good.

For now, just try this:

Get into a better space about your mistakes, love on yourself, and see what happens.

Let’s just try to keep an open mind before the self flagellation starts

What I realized a few weeks ago is a game changer.

I realized that IMPATIENCE with myself or my life, my writing or my business…

Is a sign of DISRESPECT to myself.

Yes, it is a sign of disrespect.

I do my best to be patient with others, but with myself?

Not as much. That’s where my inner mean girl comes out.

She says everything is not happening fast enough.

And it’s just plain disrespectful to me.

Making this connection really woke me up recently, especially when it felt like I had to perform for outside forces.

I always have a lot of projects going and some things had gone on the backburner for a while. 

My inner critic had totally judged that as too slow or not enough.

I realized taking off that pressure and focusing on it as a process was really going to help long term–both for my emotional health and also for the projects.

So now I am offering it to you in case it helps: 

patience with yourself is a form of respect that you do deserve no matter what.

Maybe it is taking exactly the time that it takes and anyone who says something different just does not understand–

since they aren’t you and they don’t know all the things.

BAM.

Take that inner critics.

As I said in my last email, working on your writing for your business or book is a process, as well as getting clear on what to say. 

IT IS A PROCESS.

And when you focus on it being a process, it frees you up to discover what is next for you in a more authentic way.

In a way that flows, that is organic, that feels like art of pleasure or something that you may not have been allowing yourself.

You can make decisions that you will be happy about later because you got the information or processing time necessary.

And hello–enjoy the ride!! Remember that concept?

When people focus on the product (the end result of success, or clients, or being viral, or sales, or a book bestseller or a completed website) 

that means you can eliminate things that seem like ‘distractions’…

When they aren’t distractions at all!

What if that distraction you might cut out was your inner genius and your inner mermaid (same thing) telling you exactly what to do?

What if while you were out taking a walk because you just felt like it, you had a brilliant idea?

What if while in the bath you healed a million childhood wounds and completely changed your life and now you don’t need to do the damn thing anymore at all?

What if you go to a retreat and meet someone that 5 years later gives you a job that shows you what you are really meant to do?

I have all of these experiences so I know that listening to your intuition is important.

I know that going slow enough is cool–and ultimately can be faster since you avoid racing in the wrong direction.

I know that enjoying the process is KEY. 

Because life is not all about work or production, it is also about LIFE.

Because when you stop and just focus on exploding and being done, you really miss out on something.

You miss out on self respect, and self love and alllllllllllllllll the good that results in.

I promise when you are feeling those kind of vibes, it will radiate off you and into everything you do to communicate about your business or mission. 

It will get built into the words in your book.

You’ll market yourself in a way that gets a different kind of attention.

It will spread like an auric field or an avalanche of lilac-infused aromas, and people around you will appreciate it.

It’s going to have good results when it comes to helping others and connecting to the people you are here to serve.

Because obviously, you can’t help anyone if you can’t help yourself first.

What is it that you are really needing? And how can you pursue that?

Are you willing to give yourself permission to receive whatever it is you need to thrive, 

knowing that you will be clearer and more energized to do whatever you need to do from that fulfilled place?

Getting into business helped me overcome a lot of challenges and I did not expect that.

I only started a business because I wanted a job that would allow me to both help people, and travel.

I liked the idea of being my own boss and having control of my schedule.

If I needed to go to the doctors or post office, I always could if I were my own boss.

My nine to five really drained me and then I had no energy to have a life. I also wanted to be creative in my job.

Flash forward ten years and here I am a professional writer.

Story time: I’ve never really enjoyed things that take a long time to happen.

I loved running–no, sorry, ‘walking’ as fast as possible but not quite running–down the hallways of middle school.

Then I would plunk in my chair and read as fast as I could so I could get to the end.

When the teacher began class, I’d close the book and tilt it to assess what percentage I had read, how close I was to the end.

I wanted to GET THERE.

These days there are so many opportunities to go viral–to explode and for it to be FAST.

I understand the appeal for that.

Instant success, career support, influence to change the world.

Being a bestseller. Huge crowds. Being on talk shows.

Wow. Wouldn’t that be amazing?

And it does happen…

​

But the thing is that when people are in a hurry, they miss things.

I know because I did. One day I was hustling along in my life and then I looked up and realized, I’d sped-walked my way totally in the wrong direction.

I didn’t take things through all the layers I’ve shared with you.

I didn’t come back to center and ask what I really wanted enough times to understand my priorities.

One day I realized I had adopted priorities that were not mine–I’d acted as if success in my career was all that mattered and once I was successful then I would be ‘enough’.

To prioritize all that, I’d learned to ignore major feelings I had and participated in invalidating myself.

When I realized it, I saw I’d put all this work and effort in for years, going in a direction I didn’t like anymore.

I was unhappy, and I didn’t even know who I was or what I really wanted.

I’d missed a lot of things in favor of working…

Was it worth it? No, but I did learn in the end.

I learned to slow down enough to check in with myself.

Believe me, I still whiz around a LOT but I work really hard to take that time to reconnect.

Because my inner world is just as important as the outside world, if not 10x more. That is where my inner genius is.

​

The truth is that things are changing all the time.

That when my priorities are different than how I was taught, I tend to forget and backslide.

I have to be careful not to get too far ahead of myself in thinking about where I am headed.

Because things inside and out change all the time, this is a process of taking one step at a time!

God, that is boring.

I just wanted to zip to going viral, having it all made.

But what if I went viral and I wasn’t ready?

What if I got under a huge public eye and wanted to change and then felt all this pressure to stay the same?

What if I got there and felt just as empty as I had before? Because it didn’t really address what I wanted deep down, all along?

What if what I wanted, for instance, was to be accepted and there I went putting myself on a pedestal so it was hard for anyone to relate to me and connect the way deep down I truly wanted?

​

I could really see that happening.

​

My solution? I have to remember that this is a process.

​

I have to take the steps to remain connected to myself to go the right direction.

And I have to do this even though it is so easy for me to think of this as a ‘distraction’ from speeding along.

​

IT IS SO HARD TO REMEMBER.

Oof! How many times does the universe need to smack me in the head to help me remember not to rush and rush and rush towards a goal?

And breathe. And be patient.

​

But remember:

It’s possible to go viral for the wrong reason.

It’s possible to get known for something when you aren’t really ready.

When you don’t have the clarity yet–and you could push yourself to go quickly and then end up regretting not spending a little more time on things.

​

If success has not happened yet, maybe it is for a reason.

Maybe you could still aim towards your goal but focus on enjoying the process as much as you can.

You will clarify what you need every step of the way.

​

I know this might seem counter to what I said last week about ‘the push’ and how sometimes you just need to take a leap–

But that is because in some situations taking leaps, while knowing they are going to be imperfect and a little too ‘early’…

Can be good.

And the goal and intention is not to go viral.

It’s because leaping can be part of the process of realizing if you are on track or not, getting feedback from how you feel about things and dipping a toe in.

​

Step by step.

Take a step, then you can see if you want to keep going that way. It could be exactly what you need to do to find clarity.

I’m assuming you’ll probably change your mind after doing it because you get clear you want to do it a little differently, maybe.

And it is a part of the process.

​

Where are you being impatient with your process?

Where are you telling yourself you need to go faster?

Where can you insert some space to reconnect to yourself, your needs and your priorities?

​

What happened to the Blood Witch series?

I have been working on this fiction series for a few years.

It has magic and romance and danger as a girl tries to protect her family farm from enemies as she learns to control her powers.

Last year I took a break from it because my dad had cancer.

Now I am gearing up to get back into writing.

I have decided to focus on this as a process of listening to myself and my intuition, and to have fun with the writing.

Not to achieve a big goal like being a bestseller or being perfect.

I got really down a rabbit hole with outlining and trying to make it the best–and I need to let go of some of that so I can loosen up and just write.

My speciality is really writing from life, memoir and copywriting for business. (I teach that kind of writing and do it for my clients. )

So this is very different from what I feel I have mastered as a writer and I am learning how I work best.

The Blood Witch series definitely still has my attention. Just so you know.
