Capturing my voice took time.
I tried to sing and my throat closed.
I was very embarrassed. Everyone could see and hear how fear was holding me back.
There were people I wanted to impress.
I hated how my voice sounded–bad. I vowed to get better–I can sing when no one is watching and I wanted to be able to sing as well in front of other people as I can in my car alone.
So I got support.
I learned tools.
I kept going but most importantly:
I decided to listen to that weird little voice that said to take time out of my day for myself.
One day I did something that felt good: I took a class in acupressure which seemed really interesting.
On the way home I began tapping my body on the points and exploring my singing and making up new ways to heal my fears.
The very next day, at a writing event, I got up and grabbed a microphone because I just had an urge to sing.
It was a weird idea.
I didn’t know what I was doing. I made it up on the spot.
The leader of the event stopped everyone at stared at me.
From the stage, she told me to look around at the room and see all the people crying. I’d moved them.
She asked me to sing again.
The next day and a half of the event people came up to me and told me how that song touched them.
It opened their heart, reminded me of deep experiences they had, healed something for them.
