A bit about me, Sofia Wren:
I’m a writer, editor, marketing consultant, writing coach and digital organization teacher.
And I am a human being. Being human, sometimes things in life rock me to the core.
When my dad died in 2021, I did not see it coming at all.
For several years after, I felt sad, anxious, and mad.
All of my plans for my life and career were totally torpedoed.
I felt anxious about trying to make my life better but too overwhelmed to hope change was possible.
Feeling like everything sucks and is complete garbage.
I had zero motivation to face the big things on my todo list.
I just wanted to stay in bed.
βI spent a long time in that place until I finally decided I couldn’t do it anymore.
Addressing my lack of motivation seemed like a good place to start.
I began to do research into how to be more motivated.
And that’s when I realized my lack of motivation was really a lack of optimism:
If all success seems impossible,
if hoping for good things in life feels naive,
How could I be motivated to do anything??!
No wonder I felt unmotivated to try:
I felt doubt in myself and doubt in the universe in general–
if I worked hard at something, either it wouldn’t work or
something bad or unexpected might rip my success away.
I needed to shake it off.
I needed more optimism.
So I began an experiment: a 30 Days of Optimism Challenge.
I followed a systematic process to be more optimistic and fired up to take action on my goals.
Each step only took a few minutes a day
and, lo and behold, it actually worked.
Mere days later, I was trading my anxiety for the fire and motivation I’d lacked for years.
