Process: Partnering for Support and Accountability in Writing and Biz

To Increase productivity is a big task—and I believe it is one that cannot be done alone.

Over the last year I have benefited strongly from three different ways to receive the support and kicks in the pants to get things done.

1. Personal Professional Coaches
2. Personal Accountability Partners
3. Groups of Likeminds

All three of these have their benefits and range in price.

  • From Totally free (hooking up with people you meet in person, social media or wherever),
  • A Little Expensive (signing up for a class or program that has a facebook group to stay in touch with other people in the group),
  • To More Expensive (a personal coach with an expertise that you need to hone in on what you need to know and do).

Paying money can meet benefiting from more expertise AND it has the upside of giving you more motivation to get shit done.

But if you don’t have cash coming in then you might want to find an accountability partner or a group of likeminds.

Why? Oh why not. It is so much easier to get things done when you add another person.

Plus adding people who understand what you are trying to achieve, who think it is worth it, and who believe in you, adds a magical emotional and moral element to get you past all the fears, and crap that comes up when we are striding forward into new victories.

Trust me. I could write a whole post on that, and maybe I will.

Here’s what I have found are key elements to a beneficial partnering relationship:

1. Goals: set em, make them realistic, share em.
2. Respect: you gotta care what they will think about you. That’s why you don’t want to disappoint them.
3. A Reliable Schedule: you check in regularly, whether you are sending an email every day, every week or every two weeks.

I do recommend keeping in touch at least once every two weeks because think of what would happen if you lost a whole month of your life to procrastination!

Say you aren’t quite ready to hire a coach (which really is the best way to kick yourself in the pants if you really believe your goal will change your life or earn money long term), then GET an accountability partner and establish the three things above.

I am currently gathering more writing accountability partners—only for the serious writer who is willing to write and rewrite and edit their work and get it published.

My ideal partners are self directed and are willing to update and check in on their goals on a shared spreadsheet once a week.
