Since I’ve become a professional intuitive consultant, people ask me all the time how they can become more intuitive, always know what to do next and make everything easier and clearer in their own lives.

 

The absolute first tool I ever used to improve my intuition is writing!

 

It’s a great question. Writing helps me connect to my Higher Self–the place inside of me where my greatest wisdom resides.

I know writing helped me speak up more, take better care of myself and focus on what’s important in my life and business.

I believe everyone is intuitive at some level already. I always try to give my clients tools they can use when I am not around because that is true empowerment, and writing is the best suggestion I can give.

It a simple and inexpensive thing to do. For $5 you can get a bag of pens and a cute notebook.

Even if you write as much as me, which is about 5-6 pages a day now, that could last you a month or more.

 

Since summer of 2009 when I read The Artist’s Way, I’ve been faithfully writing 3 pages a day and beyond.

 

The idea may seem daunting, so to get you started with daily writing, and all of it’s many benefits I am holding 21 day Sacred Writing Challenge beginning on April 16th.

Dear Reader,

You are a sensitive soul. Most likely you have been told to grow up and stop being so sensitive. The pain of feeling misunderstood and broken can come as a result, clinging to shame for how you can’t stop feeling the way you are feeling at the core of who you are. Perhaps the deepest level of your soul essence is in deep deep pain.

I know how painful it can be.

I remember a pivotal day in my life. I must have been about eight or nine, home alone with the woman who was to become my step mother. We were in the kitchen, before the renevation, so the tile was yellowed and ugly. She had just moved in, or perhaps she had just recently become comfortable enough with her place in my father’s love life that she felt she could begin to discipline me.

I don’t know what I did wrong, if anything, but before I knew it she was making a point on my head— stabbing her finger hard into the joining of my scalp at the top of my head, speaking in a harsh tone. It hurt and I started crying, totally shocked. No one had ever done something like that to me before, let alone her, someone I thought might be safe. Someone left to watch, in charge of me.

And as I sniffled, she said the words that would forever change my life:

“Oh, don’t be such a baby.”

Until recently, I had no idea how those words had driven me, affected me. Yes I had known they were harsh and would cause any little eight year old pain. I knew logically they were unreasonable and misguided, even cruel. At that moment I had recognized they were evidence that this was not someone to be trusted as a child and later teen, but what I had not realized consciously is how had it worked to shut me down, knot me up and drive my life as a hungry ghost, forever seeking validation.

The truth is that it meant a whole lot more than shame around crying in public and being emotional. You have to understand I had a gap in my life where a mother should be and I had hopes. A part of me was hoping that one day that job opening would be filled. And there had never been a more likely candidate. This was the woman my father was in love with, this was the first woman he had invited to live with him instead of our typical roommates. In fact we probably kicked out old our roommates to accommodate her— either my dad’s best friend with the loud rock and roll music who lined his room with tubs of records or the French woman with the sheer red curtains who was good with kids like me because she used to be an au pair.

But my step mom was something else— she was mean. The secret kind of mean that’s hard to prove to anyone without sounding like a dramatic cry baby.

Now she probably thought her crude methods like yelling or later threatening to smack me were what I needed. She had to teach important lessons like how I shouldn’t leave my shoes in the middle of the living room floor, or to be more careful and clean up my messes. It must have been a big deal to her for her to think was just so dang important she had to mishandle my tiny body. Maybe she had OCD.

But I’m going to honor my feelings and say that she was a total bitch to me, to be honest. She seemed to chase me around the house through my teens with criticisms about this or that, until I didn’t even want to be home anymore. But I didn’t think I could say anything about it— how could I? That would mean I was being a baby.

Being a baby came to encompass more than just tears, although it would take until I was 28 to realize it and feel free enough to shamelessly cry rolling tears in a crowd again. It took until I was 28 to realize what I really turned off that day, what I really blamed myself for— my deepest desires and hopes. I wanted a mother, I wanted to be nurtured. And she made me think that was wrong. That I should know better, as a nine year old who never knew her mother, she made me feel wrong to feel sad and cry the moment I realized that my greatest hope for a mom was an abusive bitch. I wanted to crawl into a woman’s lap and be hers— her daughter. Supremely and unconditionally loved.

But after that moment it became all cognitively twisted: how could my inner child be loved and nurtured like I always deserved, when it was wrong to be or act a baby?

I would never be fulfilled with that belief. And I would never have my emotional needs met if it wasn’t safe to feel. So instead I ran from my feelings, dismissed or numbed them and sought validation outside of myself.

It was like cutting off a limb, and that limb was called childhood. I wasn’t the same after that. I wasn’t as happy, wasn’t as free. I was guarded—not just around her, but everyone.

Because if it was wrong to BE, then it was wrong for people to SEE me. I couldn’t show my feelings, I couldn’t show my instincts, and that means I couldn’t show who I really was.

So I understand the pain of being “too” sensitive and it can run deep, very very deep.

The thing is that ever since that day I started trying to escape my own nature, running away from being or acting like a baby, I tried so hard to grow up without ever really doing it. I redoubled my efforts to be responsible. And yet nothing I was doing really seemed to give me what I really needed. I also wasn’t happy despite how much I tried, worked or exerted effort and discipline.

One day I realized the connection. I realized that to fix my problems I had to just sit down and feel and let the rest of growing up go for a little while.

As I write, I am still in that “little while” of figuring out all the answers. But know that within days of deciding to feel every feeling and sensation in my body consciously as if it were my job, I’ve experienced rapid transformation around this memory. I’ve felt the power and strength building because I can hold so much all along. I’ve been able to speak up and make huge leaps in my life AND big projects going on in my business. And it hasn’t even been a week.

Feel your feelings. It might just be the answer to your prayers, even if it is uncomfortable, it’s a powerful, grown up, strong, courageous, and responsible thing to do.

I really didn’t want to email this story out on Friday but at least 3 people told me they were glad I did.

I really don’t like sending multiple emails in a week, so it was difficult for me to take the plunge and share.

But I feel really passionately that I should so I did it.

It’s often hard for me to get my message out there– it always has been.

Listen- in my life it’s been HARD for me to speak up and say ANYTHING.

And if I can do it you can, too.

 

Seriously I was that girl with the long hair she was hiding behind in school,

only willing to raise her hand if she knew the right answer because it would suck to get it wrong.

Ok so I raised my hand a lot because I’m kind of a nerd BUT!

It it was anything creative or subjective or could possibly upset anyone,

you can bet I would keep it to myself.

 

I didn’t want anyone to make fun of me or dislike me.

It didn’t feel safe to express myself freely.

 

That’s why it’s such a big deal that I’m talking.

Letting people know about the Soul of what they are creating..

I’m singing my original songs on stage.

I’m working on my book (which is super personal and scary)

And it’s a big deal.

 

Today I’m going to share some of it with you!

 

People don’t always KNOW that it takes effort for me to share,

they just tell me I seem so authentic and real and I inspire them.

Some people KNOW and call me courageous–

 

We both know that courage is only present when there is fear.

 

Thursday at grad school (I’m studying in a program to give people spiritual guidance at Loyola)

We talked about how Prophets are people who speak words not their own (of the divine), 

and are often reluctant to take their role and share their message.

 

That’s me– super reluctant. I’d rather just be quiet and watch TV and not be mixed up in all this

scary spiritual-creative free bird business! It’s really hard!

 

I’m not complaining, it’s worth it.

I’m just saying I can probably relate to something you are going through if it’s hard.

AND I’ve gathered all these awesome tools to help make it easier.

So it’s possible for you, too.

 

If you have a message you want to share– I believe in you, that you can do it.

My awesome great aunt was commenting to me a few months ago—

“Transformation! I’ll say, Sofia you have undergone a huge transformation.

It doesn’t suprise at all that you can help someone else do that.

You’ve been through a lot and come a long way.”

 

What with the death of my mom at just three years old,

my evil step mom, getting bullied when I started getting popular,

it sucked growing up and for a long time after.

 

The fact that I am OK right now and have any semblence of confidence, is a miracle.

I’m proud of where I am because I had to work for it.

I had to decide what I wanted, and go for it. It wasn’t easy,

but that’s why you don’t have to do it alone. I can help.

 

So here are some ESSENTIAL questions to answer

so you can make that transformation that you want to see happen.

 

Ask yourself this:

1. What is the situation where I am stuck?

2. What is really happening right now? ie What’s it look like?

3. What’s the real reason why I am stuck? ie What’s the root?

4. What have I been resisting doing or seeing in this situation?

5. What actions do I need to take to get a Quantum Shift to transform this situation?

 

For me personally, self trust is huge.

It’s what I resisted and also what I need most to be able to speak when I feel the call,

send that email, make that video, post that blog, call that client,

write my book.

 

Since I really got clear on the answers to these question and put them into action over the weekend,

I got a huge transformation increasing my self trust– the root of the slag in my progress,

and I started working on my book more every day.

I’m making steady progress at a faster rate.

I also feel really good, inside and out.

Yay!

From Doormat to Dominance and Beyond: How to Become a Manifest Goddess

(this is super scary to share and vulnerable, hope you like this little peak!)

     I let everything fade away as the next metro car arrives. The door swings open and then closes automatically behind me. The valves release with a sigh that reminds me of space stations. Then the engine chugs a lullaby and I sit. Rocking with the motion, I stare at my fingertips, fascinated by the world of swirls, the tiny details that make me me.

    I pass the time, then looking up at the rough ceiling, the subtle stains of wear and tear. I think about all the worries and hopes and dreams of the people who have ever sat on the chair before me.

    It amazes me, it fills me with this feeling, and for a few minutes I am rocked not only by the traveling car, but by this realization of vastness. I forget my collar and its trappings, my fingertips and the mark of who I am. I am of the world, a part of it dropped like a bead of rain into the synthesis of all that is, every person one.

The divisions between everything melt away and so at last I feel a deep empathy for everyone in the room with me and not just my own pain. I feel the well that we are all swimming into, the ills of society and the cresting joys of just being here, alive and not alone in the beauty of creation. Imperfect as it is, still, completeness shrouds me as its priestess.

Once upon a time there was a girl named Sofia Wren who at the tender age of 27 began to hear a name, “The Book Priestess,” that took a year to understand.

As she worked to find her place in the word, a title to describe her skills and talents, “The Book Priestess” was a whisper that kept rustling inside of her.

What does it mean?

She could feel it’s power and she wondered how to explain it to others.

There was a book inside of her heart always wanting to be born. A masterpiece, something of fine quality that she could be truly proud to share. Something that would leave a legacy to pass on to others one day.

She had published one book, and now another was almost done.  Meanwhile she was working to help other writers complete their drafts, and was successful in that task, too.

But although her mind went to literal books first, she knew there had to be another explanation because it thrilled her to help authors and it seemed like a name for so much more.

To be The Book Priestess is to be in communication with the divine force that runs through all things, to read and to carry messages from The Book of Life.

Writers and creators need these answers and the deep sense of connection that comes from tuning into the Soul of their Creative projects. It is then that they can make faster progress in a way that really fits them. Those Creative Souls hold spiritual records which a knowing Book Priestess can open.

Sofia Wren worked keeping order in libraries for 7 years through college and after, and so was immediately drawn to a spiritual library called the Akashic Records. She’s worked in the Records since 2011.

The Akashic Records Institute (which certified Sofia Wren) defines the Akashic Records as:

The Akashic Records is a collective of consciousness, of all the thoughts, actions, emotions and experiences that ever occurred in the Earth. All civilizations, all lifetimes, all realities.

When we [and our creations] made the decision to be born, a field of energy is created to record every thought, word, emotion and action generated by that experience. That field of energy is the Akashic Records.

Akashic because it is composed of Akasha (the energetic substance from which all life is formed) and Records because its objective is to record all life experience.

The Akashic Records holds an ethereal, holographic collection of information from the human consciousness from the past, present and potentials for the future.

Each soul has its own Akashic Record and there are collective Records of all souls and all journeys. That explains why the Records are everywhere, whether in a planet, a crystal, a plant or inside a person.

We are all here to learn and evolve and everyone was doing the best they knew how, regardless of how it may look today.

The Records are everywhere. They are within us and around us.

The Akashic Records contain all past, present and future possibilities for living and non-living beings in the Earth. They contain a collection of everything that has occurred in the past and they hold information on an array of options regarding possibilities for the future.

One way to understand the Akashic Records is to envision the Records as a big metaphorical library that contains the entire history of your Soul, as well as every aspect of who you are now and all the potential for your future.”

 

Being the Book Priestess is a calling that Sofia Wren has embraced because it was meant for her. It was supposed to be her, even before she fully understood the job that she was doing to serve other people. It was a part of her Record.

Whether you are a writer, artist or a business owner, understanding the function of the soul of what you are creating will save you a lot of headache AND heartache.

Because you wouldn’t approach a canvas without a paintbrush, or a notebook without a pen, or a battlefield without a weapon..

So why approach a creative process without understanding the most important tool of all?

Everything is creation; so if you are wondering how I can generalize to say that writing is just like entrepreneurship, THAT’s how.

 

For the purposes of this discussion let’s call this: Creative Soul.

That is the soul of what you create, like a book, a blog, a class, a business offer, not the soul of a creation person.

This creative soul has very similar functions to that of YOUR soul. I’ve been reading about the nature of the soul for my Masters in Spiritual and Pastoral Care at Loyola, and the book The Holy Longing by Rolheiser inspired me this week to apply those learnings to the Creative Soul.

The two functions of any soul are:

1. Energy

2. Adhesion

 

The Creative Soul, i.e. the soul of what you are creating, also serves these two very important functions.

Now let’s elaborate a little bit more about these functions.

1. Energy.

 

The soul is the heart of the creative power and energy that allows you to enjoy creating.

The creative process is all about tapping into energy: it’s a flood when inspiration is pouring through your pen, and it is elating when you have that inspiring click in your business creation. It makes your heart soar. It makes your heart beat faster. It makes you smile, gleeful, playful and excited.

Everything in the universe is made of energy, so you are uniting with all that is through the creative process. However, your project has a specific and separate energy from anything else (more in part 2) including separate from yours. That’s what makes it’s Creative Soul distinct.

2. Adhesion

Without something to tie everything together and direct our actions, ideas by themselves are meaningless in the physical world. 

This is true no matter how many ideas you have, and no matter how brilliant they are.

Pursuing ideas without the crux could be a gigantic waste of time resulting only in failure.

True artists pursue ideas with soul. The execution of the guidance given by the Creative Soul results in mastery.

Think about it: All the greats in art have a cohesive style that makes things them. In business we call it a brand, and in writing we call it a voice.

The thing that glues all the pieces together into a coherent whole is the Creative Soul.

The Creative Soul is what you have been looking for. It is the key to the lock.  It doesn’t even matter what the situation is, the soul always has the answer because it ties everything together that would otherwise fall apart. It is literally connected to every facet of the creative process including it’s full manifestation in form, or what I call the guidelines for “its perfect unfolding.”

So if your process feels scattered or you feel lost right now–then you need soul.

If you can’t find the answer to the puzzle or put all the pieces together just right, you probably are missing soul.

Swirling ideas or thoughts don’t translate well into action. This can be the plague of too ideas without a connection to the Creative Soul. Those disconnected ideas can seem enticing or exciting but they can also cause you to go into overwhelm. Overwhelm is  a neurological response to being overstimulated that cripples your thought process and is physically uncomfortable as your body goes into fight or flight mode.  

Overwhelm is what I call one of the banes of creation, along with overthinking and confusion. All of these things can be an indication that you are missing the soul piece.

Two things can happen if you don’t have that adhesive quality of the soul to help you:

You could easily either sit with all the thoughts and ideas forever as you hunt for the soul and never take any action, OR you could take action in the totally wrong direction that takes you farther away from the soul of your creation.

 

Do you see how absolutely important the soul is?

 

It’s essential and it strikes me as nuts that not as many people talk about this.

To be fair I have influences that discuss the soul in business like Hiro Boga, or Tara Marino. But I don’t hear people talking about the importance of the soul in the creative process of writing quite so much. Anyway…

Often times the soul is that missing link that you have been looking for this whole time. Can you believe it is really that simple

Well, it is.

I believe what is more difficult is wrapping our minds around it because it’s really a matter of feeling into it. We need to engage not only our mind in the creative process but also our bodies, hearts, and spirits. We need to connect our soul to that we are getting, in a healthy and productive way with boundaries.

 Our cognitive minds don’t understand souls because they can’t feel. Our heart and being understand the Creative Soul once they are able feel it and identify it’s distinct and cohesive qualities.

 

Putting it all Together

My job is connecting people to the Creative Soul, i.e the soul of their creations, including writing books, blogs, creating courses for sale, etc.

I’m like a bridge or a mediator.

 

Let me provide an example of what happens when we are missing this connection to creative soul, and what happens when we get that connection back.

Last week I talked to a lovely woman recently about a course she was planning to offer, as well as everything she need to do to market it. At first it was clear she didn’t have access to the soul. She appeared confused, asking a lot of questions all over the place, seeking something to pull it all together. She also seemed a little dejected. Overwhelmed. Heavy. Like she had a headache. She might literally have put her hands on her head and exhaled in a sigh of frustration. From her perspective it probably felt hard, and sorting through the conundrums was kind of depressing.

That’s why we need ENERGY and cohesion. Our souls light up when we feel a connection to the soul of what we are creating.  Light bulb moment.

By the end of our conversation she was feeling clear, excited and bubbly. We had moved on but she still kept randomly saying, “Yay I am so excited,” in a sing-song voice, doing a little dance in her chair, because she was feeling the energy. Feeling the soul. It fed her the energy she needed, like plugging into an electric socket.

She ended up taking strategic action instantly and successfully in the 24 hours after our talk.

If she hadn’t plugged into the soul of her course launch, she could still be confused and circling right now. She would feel disconnected from exactly what she needed to move forward. That probably wouldn’t have made her soul feel very good either.

This is what my client said about what happened as we talked, “I have had this in the back of my head for months. It was all floating around and then it all clicked into place as I was talking to you. I know what to do now. Yay! I am so excited.”

Not only did I help her know the next step, but she felt that click of the adhesive properties of the soul sliding into place. It gives us a completeness that feels so good, and it also gives us energy to make good things happen.

The next day she put a sign up link out there on facebook and immediately saw that a dozen people had signed up right away.

 

Attracting Big Opportunities

Not only does your connection to the soul of your creation help you to create more quickly, easily and in a feel good way, but it also feels good to other people around you.

People like creations with soul. The energy and cohesive clarity of it hits people viscerally. They feel it and it’s a draw, it’s a pull, it’s a rope drawing in exactly those people that were meant to interact with your creation.

So if you want more people reading your writing, or signing up to work with you in your business, then you definitely want soul to inspire you as you create.
